🚨 Serious incident in Newport 🚨
A major crash on Aberthaw Road in Alway, Newport, has led to a full road closure. Gwent Police, along with other emergency teams, have been working through the night after the accident, which involved a motorcycle.
The road is blocked in both directions and extensive forensic investigations are in progress. Local authorities are urging anyone travelling in the area to find alternative routes due to potential congestion. The only way into the Alway estate is now via Penkin Hill, so please plan your journey accordingly.
Images from the scene show the police have set up tents and are conducting a thorough investigation with cones marking the area. The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirms Gwent Police are leading the investigation, with the road expected to remain closed for a while.
Despite the incident, Alway Primary School is open. Parents have been notified about the situation, with the school encouraging alternative travel arrangements if needed.
The ambulance service responded quickly, with advanced critical care support provided at the scene. Two ambulances, along with Cymru High Acuity Response Units and a manager, supported the effort. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service also delivered critical care through the Wales Air Ambulance charity car.
Please stay tuned for further updates and avoid Aberthaw Road until further notice. Stay safe, everyone! 🙏
