What happens when an MS loses their seat after the Senedd elections? š¤ Well, for starters, 16 sitting members were not re-elected this time around, and theyāre entitled to some compensation for their departure. Letās break it down:

1ļøā£ **Winding-Up Payment**: Those who stood for re-election but didnāt make it can claim a payment equivalent to three monthsā salary. Given that an MS’s basic annual salary was Ā£76,380, thatās around Ā£19,095.

2ļøā£ **Resettlement Grant**: If an MS served multiple years, they might also get a resettlement grantāone monthās salary for each completed year, up to six monthsā salary in total.
3ļøā£ **Additional Office Bonus**: Members who held positions like First Minister or committee chair might receive additional payouts based on their roles.
And for those MSs who didnāt seek re-election? They only get a two-month winding-up payment and no resettlement grant.
Hereās a quick look at some of the members who didnāt make it back this term: Independents like Rhys ab Owen and Russell George, Labourās Hannah Blythyn and Alun Davies, Plaidās Luke Fletcher, and Conservatives like Gareth Davies and Altaf Hussain. š
Itās definitely a shake-up, and these payments are designed to help former MSs transition out of their roles. What do you think about these compensations? š¬ Let us know your thoughts!
