Imagine finding out you’ve lost your job while live on TV! That’s exactly what happened to former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet back in June 2013. While working as a pundit for the BBC, Gus was sacked during a broadcast. Talk about a shocker! ⚽️📺

Here’s the scoop: Poyet, who had been doing a stellar job with Brighton, guiding them to a play-off semi-final, was in for a surprise. He was in the BBC studios covering a Confederations Cup game when Brighton announced his termination. The timing left him—and viewers—stunned: they cut to a commercial break and bam, he’s out of a job.

Although it seemed like a brutal move, Gus reckons it might just have been a blunder, a case of awful timing. Brighton likely didn’t realise he was live on air. “It was a mistake probably,” he later explained.

Despite this setback, Poyet didn’t stay down for long. By October 2013, he was back on his feet managing Sunderland, turning their poor start around and leading them to a League Cup final. He later coached teams in Greece, Spain, Chile, and beyond, becoming quite the globetrotting manager. 🌍⚽️
Before stepping into management, Gus had an illustrious playing career with clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham, bagging several trophies, including the FA Cup.
Now, he’s tackling new challenges as the head coach of Al-Khaleej FC in Saudi Arabia. From player to pundit to a world-travelled coach, Gus Poyet’s career has certainly been a rollercoaster! 🎢
