🎓 From Graduation Gown to Foodbank 📚

Meet Steven Crichton from Llantwit Fardre. After graduating from the University of South Wales in 2024, life took an unexpected turn. Despite a four-year journey to earn his degree, he found himself needing a foodbank to keep his family afloat during the summer holidays.

Steven’s story is one of resilience. After losing his dad at a young age and overcoming personal challenges, he pursued education with hopes of becoming a counsellor. But the gap between university life and full-time work left him and his fiancée, both graduates, in financial limbo.
As Steven juggled the pressures of family life with four kids and a mortgage, the local foodbank became a lifeline. The generosity he received not only fed his family but also fuelled his determination to make a difference. Today, he runs his own counselling business and collaborates with Trussell Trust to enhance the foodbank experience for others in need.
Steven’s message is clear: There’s no shame in seeking help. Foodbanks are filled with kind-hearted volunteers ready to support those in crisis. His experience calls attention to a greater issue, as Jo Harry from Trussell Trust states, “Hunger isn’t about food – it’s about affordability of essentials.”
It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting one another and striving for a world where no one goes hungry. Together, let’s push for changes that ensure everyone can access the essentials of life. 💪
