🚨 Big News for Llanelli! 🚨 A shiny new £35m special school is set to open its doors in September 2029! 🌟 Plans are in motion for the new Ysgol Heol Goffa, which will be nestled by Ysgol Pen Rhos, moving nearly four miles from its current spot. This fantastic facility will welcome 150 students aged 3-19 with severe learning difficulties. 📚✏️

After some bumps in the road, with plans for a smaller school scrapped in 2024 due to costs, Carmarthenshire Council has greenlit a much larger and better-equipped school. 🙌 Cllr Glynog Davies assures us it’s “bigger, better, modern and future-proofed.” With the Welsh Government picking up 75% of the tab, Cllr Martyn Palfreman is confident that funding is secured. 💰

The current school is bursting at the seams with outdated facilities, so this modern project couldn’t come at a better time. The new building will feature 21st-century facilities to support children with complex needs, including fantastic provisions for post-16 students to learn vital life and vocational skills. 🏫💼
A hydrotherapy pool at the nearby Pentre Awel development will be part of the mix, adding to the comprehensive care and development students will receive. Plus, an exciting £4m investment means a new autism unit at Ysgol Glan-y-Mor in Burry Port is set to open by September 2027! 🤩
Local leaders like Cllr Steve Williams and Director of Education Owain Lloyd are ensuring every detail is considered, from possible expansions to convenient access for parents and pupils. As Cllr Kim Broom passionately stated, “The parents want a new school, and the children deserve that.” ❤️
The journey to this point has been long and complex, but the council is enthusiastically moving forward. Stay tuned for updates as we eagerly await the final decisions next March! 🎉📢
