A shocking discovery at Cardiff Crown Court: Jack Purnell, a 22-year-old mechanic, has been found with a secret folder on his phone titled “young,” containing a staggering 85 indecent images of children, including horrifying content of babies as young as one. Acting on intelligence from a separate investigation, police searched Purnell’s home in April last year and seized various devices, uncovering over 100 illegal images on his mobile.

The prosecutor revealed that the graphic collection included category A, B, and C images. Among the worst were disturbing images, with 21 stills and 26 videos in category A, showing children aged 3 to 13 subjected to despicable acts. Category B had images of partially clothed children between 6 and 13, some depicting abuse. The category C images included 15 stills and four videos of babies.

The court learned that this vile behaviour spanned a year and a half. Purnell, from Newbridge, Caerphilly, has pleaded guilty but insists he’s remorseful and ashamed. Currently living with his mother and holding a university degree, his future now hangs in the balance.
Despite the gravity of his offences, Purnell received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. He must also complete 225 hours of unpaid work and attend rehabilitation sessions.
This case sends a strong message: There’s no room for such horrific acts, and those responsible will be held accountable.
