Ioan was not just a brilliant player for Afan Lido FC; he was a cherished friend, adored by teammates and fans alike. The loss of such a lively spirit has sent shockwaves through the Welsh football community.

Growing up together in Abernant, Jack reminisced about childhood days with Ioan, playing football in his cul-de-sac with trees as goalposts. This bond was only strengthened through Ioan’s dedication to his footballing family at Lido. Jack fondly recalls, “He loved the Lido. They adored him down here.”

Ioan, who also taught at Cwmbach Church in Wales Primary School, was a talented midfielder with previous stints at Cardiff Met FC and Cardiff City’s academy. He quickly became a respected figure at Afan Lido, making 127 appearances and leading the team as captain on several occasions.

The outpouring of support from fans and clubs following Ioan’s tragic passing has been overwhelming. Jack recounted the touching tribute during Lido’s first game after Ioan’s death, where fans and friends from Aberdare joined hands in remembrance.

Jack admitted he never knew of Ioan’s struggles, which has opened eyes to the reality that anyone could be suffering in silence. Remembering Ioan as a loyal friend always with a smile, Jack’s plea is clear: “Please, please open up. Say something.”

Afan Lido described Ioan as “the smallest man in the room who had the biggest impact,” while his school praised his “warmth and gentle presence.”

Let Ioan’s memory inspire conversations, support, and connection. If you or someone you know needs help, reach out. Let’s break the silence and support each other. 🌟
