Scott Hastings, a legendary name in Scottish rugby, has sadly passed away at 61 after battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Known for his 65 caps as a Scotland international and being a two-time British and Irish Lions tourist, Scott’s legacy will forever remain in the rugby community. His passing on Sunday, marked by the poignant coincidence of his late wife Jenny’s birthday, offers a bittersweet reminder of their touching love story.

Jenny tragically took her own life not long before Scott’s death. She had long struggled with mental health issues but was a radiant spirit, cherished as a wife, mother, and sister. Her disappearance in September 2024 during a swim at Edinburgh’s Wardie Bay led to a heart-wrenching discovery shortly afterwards, just as the couple would’ve celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.

Scott’s reflections on Jenny’s tragic last days reveal the deep love and heartbreak he endured. Despite their struggles, her final gestures—such as leaving a self-help book titled “Don’t Worry” under his pillow—showed her intent to spare her family from additional burdens.
In one of his moving interviews, Scott shared how he began open-water swimming at the spot where Jenny passed, holding tight to his memory of their time together. His admission of not being able to grow old with her resonates deeply now that he, too, has passed on.
Scott’s children, Corey and Kerry-Anne, have shared that he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, echoing the strong family bonds he cherished. As we remember Scott, let’s also celebrate his remarkable life and career, as well as the love story that defined his personal world.
To all grieving his loss, and that of Jenny, our hearts go out to you. Both Scott and Jenny leave behind a legacy of love, strength, and remembrance.💔 #ScotlandRugby #RIPScottHastings
