Residents of a Pontypool neighbourhood are fed up with the chaos of the school run! Living near New Inn Primary School has turned into a daily struggle for those in the Hillcrest area, as residents face aggressive behaviour and parking nightmares during drop-off and pick-up times. Caroline Knowles, who’s lived there since 1960, says it disrupts their daily lives. Some folks tell her she shouldn’t have bought a house near a school, but she fires back: “My father built this house!”

The area’s narrow roads make it tough when parents park on pavements and blare music while waiting in their cars. Mrs Knowles and other locals dread school hours, though the summer holidays bring sweet relief. Existing yellow lines aren’t doing the trick, as residents find their drives blocked and tempers flaring.
Local authority Torfaen Borough Council has drafted new parking proposals and wants input from the community to tackle the issue head-on. Some residents like Debbie Powell and the Cripwells have shared their stressful experiences, and many have already participated in the council’s survey, though they remain sceptical about its impact.

The potential solutions floated by the council include a no-waiting restriction and possibly employing a traffic warden. Will these measures bring peace back to Hillcrest? Only time will tell.
Residents are eager for change, and they have until Tuesday, 26th May to voice their thoughts on the proposed plans. Will this be the end of the school run chaos, or just another chapter in the ongoing saga? Keep your eyes peeled for updates as the deadline approaches! 🚗🚸📢
