🚆 Heads up, train travellers! 🚆

If you’re planning to travel between Newport and Bristol Parkway soon, you might want to reconsider your plans. Major engineering works are set to shake up services for over two weeks as Network Rail embarks on a project aimed at making the Severn Tunnel route more reliable in the long term.

From Saturday, May 23, to the morning of Tuesday, June 9, the railway between these two stops will be closed, and replacement bus services will swoop in to save the day. 🚍 Expect some of your journeys to reroute via Gloucester, and do keep an eye out for the limited service operating between London Paddington and Bristol Parkway. Remember, on Sunday, May 24, only a handful of trains will run, so double-check your plans! 📅
What’s the big deal? Engineers have cooked up an innovative corrosion-reducing system, rolled out on a global scale for the first time right here. This cutting-edge upgrade aims to slash maintenance checks and guarantee smoother rides for passengers and freight alike. Plus, the track and infrastructure are getting a facelift in the Bristol and Patchway areas which preps things for the buzzing new Bristol Brabazon station launching later this year! 🚉
Marcus Deegan from Great Western Railway says, “We’re super grateful for passengers’ patience with bus replacements – this essential work will hugely boost the route’s reliability for years.”
And for those enthused by pioneering rail tech, Nia Watkins from Network Rail highlights, “This world-first upgrade under the Severn Estuary is key to sustaining safe, reliable services. It’s all about long-term planning!”
