🚨 Shoplifting Surge in Wales 🚨

Attention, everyone! It seems Welsh high streets are facing a big problem with shoplifting. Since coming out of lockdown, the nation has seen a dramatic rise in retail theft, coinciding with the cost-of-living crisis. Our latest stats show a staggering increase in shoplifting crimes over the past few years.

🔍 Cardiff, Swansea, and Newport are amongst the top areas dealing with these challenges. In Cardiff alone, there were 5,228 reported incidents last year! While Swansea and Newport saw a significant drop, other areas like Denbighshire experienced rising crime rates, pushing it up to the 57th position from 120th in the country.
🔥 The situation is so critical that the British Retail Consortium (BRC) reported a mind-blowing £4.2 billion lost to crime in 2024, with £2.2 billion attributed just to shoplifting. The introduction of a new Crime and Policing Bill hopes to clamp down on low-value theft and protect retail staff from assaults.
👮 Positive strides are being made, with more arrests and a stronger police presence. Andrew Goodacre of the British Independent Retailers Association highlights the progress but emphasises the need for continued vigilance. Reporting every incident is crucial to drive the data that informs action.
