🏰 Dream Big: From City Life to Tudor Mansion Bliss 🏰

Adrian Cole and Christine Tallon traded their city jobs for a life less ordinary when they purchased the once-neglected Y Fan mansion in Caerphilly, South Wales. With a vision in mind, they took on the mammoth task of transforming the 500-year-old building into a breathtaking £1.5 million B&B.

This Tudor gem, dating back to 1529, was a shadow of its former self, complete with mould, rust, and deteriorated beams. Undeterred, Adrian and Christine rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. From ripping out plaster to revamping 132 windows, every nook of the property got a facelift.

After years of restoration and hosting more than 7,000 delightful afternoon teas, the couple is ready to pass the baton. Listed with Fine & Country, the mansion is now on the market, looking for new owners to continue its story.
Christine, still occasionally dabbling in legal consultancy, reflects on their adventure: “We love the homely vibe, but we’re craving a bit more downtime now.”
Adrian recalls their renovation hurdles, sharing tales of cold winters without heating and daily trips to the skip. “We took on the challenge, and while it was tough, the results are beyond rewarding,” he beams.
From tackling brambles in the garden to learning lime pointing and stone walling, they embraced every challenge with grit. Even COVID-19 didn’t dampen their spirits, as they finally opened the B&B to guests in 2021.
Christine muses on living in a place steeped in history: “It’s incredible to imagine the stories these walls could tell.”
Adrian adds, “With stunning views and beautiful trails nearby, the mansion offers a tranquil escape. We’ve loved our journey but are ready for more relaxation.”
