🐑 Lost Sheep Drama in Blaenavon! 🐑

Blaenavon, the picturesque Welsh town, is facing a woolly situation! Over the years, locals have noticed more and more sheep roaming freely, causing quite a stir among residents.

Years ago, the idea of hiring a shepherd was dismissed by Torfaen Borough Council due to costs. But now, there’s talk of introducing a ranger to get these wandering sheep back on track, thanks to Councillor Nick Horler’s persistence. 🐏

Cllr Horler highlighted that damaged fencing, due to vandalism, is allowing sheep to escape and wander into town, raising concerns for their safety. At a recent meeting, he asked if it’s time to bring in a shepherd, a role dismissed back in September 2023. Cllr Mandy Owen, the environment lead, hinted that the council might explore the idea of a new ranger role tasked with managing stray livestock and other common land issues.
This proposal hinges on funding from partner organisations, but additional discussions are on the horizon as everyone’s eager to solve this woolly mess!
Residents recall the drama when a stray ram terrorised the Forgeside area. Thankfully, the council has been working with livestock owners and is also repairing stock-proof fencing along vital areas like Llanfoist Avenue. 🛠️
Could this quirky tale of sheep in the streets soon become a thing of the past? More updates are expected after discussions in July. Stay tuned! 🌍
