In a shocking turn of events, a 75-year-old man from Llanelli, sentenced for child sexual offences, has died just weeks into his prison term. Nicholas Page had admitted to attempting a heinous act: paying to have a child delivered to his home for abuse. This despicable plot was uncovered when Page boasted about his sinister online activities to a care worker.

At Swansea Crown Court, he received a three-year sentence but barely served time in Bridgend’s HMP Parc before being transferred to a hospital, where he passed away on May 7th. The case highlighted the chilling conversations and actions of Page. During a home visit, the care worker witnessed Page discussing encounters with underage girls and showing inappropriate images, prompting an immediate police investigation.

Upon raiding his house, police discovered texts where Page sought indecent images of minors and arranged sexual encounters with young girls. Disturbingly, he had set up a meeting for a girl to come to his residence, becoming irate when she didn’t show. The court revealed a disturbing intent to abuse, although the defence argued he was misled by an unknown person.
Despite a troubled history in the care system, his past didn’t shield him from justice, as Judge Paul Thomas KC emphasised the severe impact of his actions, noting no chance of rehabilitation. Page had evaded court appearances before finally being detained in December.
His untimely death in custody raises questions, with G4S confirming an investigation by the prisons ombudsman. Meanwhile, justice agencies continue their efforts to combat such grotesque crimes and bring offenders to justice.
