Exciting news for shoppers in Flintshire! Lidl is set to lock horns with Aldi by proposing a brand-new store at Broughton Shopping Park. Imagine the convenience for bargain hunters as the new Lidl will be just 70 metres away from its rival Aldi, separated only by a Chester Road roundabout.

The proposed Lidl store will occupy nearly 2,000 square metres, slightly larger than its neighbour, and plans include 138 parking bays with two EV charging points. This development is not just about shopping, though—it’s set to create up to 40 new jobs, providing a boost to the local economy.

Initially, the site was pegged for a medical centre, a pub/restaurant, and an 80-bed hotel. However, those plans never materialised, opening the door for Lidl to step in. The latest proposal is all about modern sustainability, featuring energy-efficient designs and a sleek glazed front to let in plenty of natural light. The addition of solar panels will ensure the store is eco-friendly with a zero-carbon energy footprint.
Flintshire Council is still reviewing the plans but has given a nod in principle, with public consultations expected to open soon. If the proposal gets the green light, you can look forward to shopping from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
