If you’re on Universal Credit and have a health condition, there might be extra help available for you. 💷 This could mean hundreds more in your pocket each month, thanks to the ‘health element’ known as Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA).

Here’s the scoop: Recent changes now offer two different rates. Those already receiving LCWRA before April 6th, 2026, won’t see any changes. But for new applicants, you might be eligible for the higher rate of £429.80 if you have a severe, lifelong condition or are nearing the end of life. Otherwise, the lower rate is £217.26.

Wondering if you qualify? A Work Capability Assessment by a health professional will help determine if your condition is severe, lifelong, and unlikely to improve. These assessments ensure that the right support reaches those who truly need it.

If you and your partner both qualify, only one additional monthly payment is made. And if one qualifies for the higher amount, that’s the one you’ll receive.

📌 Don’t forget: When claiming Universal Credit, report if you have a health condition or disability, including any medical treatments, hospital visits, or if you’re pregnant.

Always inform the Department for Work and Pensions of any changes in your health promptly, like new diagnoses or changes in your condition.
