Chaos struck at the Queen’s tennis tournament today as unexpected heavy rain in London played havoc with the schedule. Fans eagerly awaiting the first matches were in for disappointment when play, originally set for 12.45pm, was repeatedly delayed due to the downpour. 🌧️

When matches finally kicked off, they barely started before the skies opened up again. Olympic champ Qinwen Zheng only played eight points against Jaqueline Cristian before the umpire halted play. Likewise, Karolina Pliskova and Harriet Dart saw their matches cut short—Pliskova leading 1-0 and Dart managing just one point! 🎾

The organisers have now announced there will be no action until at least 5pm, much to the dismay of the crowd waiting inside the Andy Murray Arena. Unfortunately, West London isn’t planning to cooperate, with more rain forecasted over the next three days. Unlike Wimbledon, there’s no shelter here for players or fans as the courts aren’t covered.

The BBC, who had started their broadcast just as play was resuming, swiftly switched gears too! With ball and racket now at a pause, they’ll be airing a classic Venus vs Serena Williams match instead. 🎥

Let’s hope the weather clears up soon so we can catch British star Katie Boulter go head-to-head with eighth seed Leylah Fernandez today and see Emma Raducanu in action tomorrow.

Stay tuned for updates—fingers crossed for sunnier skies!
