A shocking case has hit the headlines as Stephen Francis Mitchell, 38, was jailed for nearly four years after being caught in a sting operation. Believing he was chatting with a 12-year-old girl, Mitchell was in fact messaging an undercover police officer. This breach of his sexual harm prevention order led authorities to dig deeper into his activities.

What they found was disturbing. Police discovered almost 300 indecent images of children on his devices, including those of the most serious kind. His troubling actions didn’t stop there – in November 2025, he was caught exposing himself at a train station in public view.

Despite already being under investigation, Mitchell continued to defy the law by downloading prohibited apps, which led to the discovery of more illegal images.
Appearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, he admitted to a series of offences, including breaching his SHPO and attempting inappropriate communication with what he thought was a child. He now faces 3 years and 11 months behind bars and has been slapped with a new indefinite SHPO.
Detective Inspector Jon Rich from the North Wales Police emphasised that the sentence serves as a stern warning to others who might pose a danger to children. The police have vowed to continue their vigilant monitoring of offenders, ensuring any breaches are quickly and sternly dealt with.
