🚆 Exciting News for Commuters! 🚆

The Severn Tunnel is back in action! After weeks of travel headaches and bus replacements between Bristol Parkway and Newport, trains are once again running through the tunnel, thanks to a major £23m upgrade.

🔧 What’s New?
A massive 250 engineers worked tirelessly for 16 days to complete this project, bringing a unique and innovative engineering solution to one of the UK’s most challenging rail environments. This upgrade includes brand-new overhead line equipment and a more reliable power supply to tackle the harsh conditions inside the tunnel, notorious for its saltwater and corrosive atmosphere.
🏗️ The Upgrades:
– Replaced 838 overhead line support arms
– Installed 14,000 metres of new wiring
– More than 7km of copper contact wire put in place
– Updated 7,200 metres of ageing equipment
Vinny O’Holloran, operations director at ARQ, praised the remarkable efforts and expertise of the dedicated team who braved the unique conditions of the tunnel to bring this groundbreaking, world-first system to life.

The new setup not only promises smoother journeys between Wales and England but also reduces the need for pesky future maintenance, meaning fewer disruptions for passengers and freight. Hooray!
