Woman Overwhelmed by Toxic Conditions in Unattended Pet Owner’s Residence, Eyes Watering and Nose Burning

A heartbreaking scene unfolded in Briton Ferry as a man was banned from keeping animals for seven years, after a shocking discovery by the RSPCA. The conditions in which three cats and two kittens were found were so appalling that even RSPCA officers were left with stinging eyes and streaming noses due to the overpowering smell of ammonia.

The flat on Victoria Street was described as filthy, with bare concrete floors stained with dirt, no food or water for the furry residents, and rubbish littered everywhere. The poor kitties—Arianna, Carlos, Cole, and the two unnamed kittens—were forced to live amidst hazardous conditions. The officers observed the animals playing among the refuse and huddled on cluttered sofas, raising serious concerns for their welfare.

When the owner, 29-year-old Jordan Brian Saunders, failed to engage with the RSPCA’s repeated efforts for improvement, the situation escalated, leading to police intervention. Thankfully, the animals have been rescued and are now under the care of the RSPCA. The kittens and Cole have already found new loving homes, while steps are being taken to rehome Arianna and Carlos.

In court, Saunders pleaded guilty to failing to provide a suitable environment for the animals under the Animal Welfare Act. Aside from the seven-year ban on keeping animals, he received a 12-month community order and a fine. During sentencing, the court heard of his remorse, though this was overshadowed by the heartbreaking neglect of the animals.

This serves as a crucial reminder that when you take on the responsibility of pet ownership, it’s vital to ensure your furry companions are treated with the kindness and care they deserve. If you know someone struggling to care for their pets, encourage them to seek help before it’s too late. No animal should have to live in such horrific conditions. 💔🐾
