🎉 A Grand Tribute to a Welsh Trailblazer 🚀

Prepare to be inspired as the incredible Elizabeth Andrews gets the recognition she truly deserves! A stunning statue honouring this champion for women’s and children’s rights is set to be unveiled at the Rhondda Heritage Park Museum in Trehafod. 🎨✨

Elizabeth Andrews was an unstoppable force in the early 20th century. Growing up as one of 11 children in a mining family from Hirwaun, her journey wasn’t easy. She sacrificed her dreams of teaching to support her family but found her calling in fighting for social justice. Andrews’ remarkable achievements include establishing one of Wales’ earliest nursery schools and revolutionising mining communities by campaigning for the creation of pithead baths, drastically improving living conditions.
As the first Labour Party women’s organiser for Wales, Elizabeth worked tirelessly to help women find their voice, creating vital women’s sections and translating pamphlets to empower them to vote. Her powerful testimony before the House of Lords in 1919 shed light on the drastic impact of mining on family life, and during economic hardships, her efforts to coordinate community support were invaluable.
This statue is the fifth and final honour in the Monumental Welsh Women campaign, joining tributes to other incredible women such as Betty Campbell, Elaine Morgan, Sarah Jane Rees, and Lady Rhondda. Together, they serve as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of Welsh women throughout history. 🌟
Join us on Thursday, June 15th, at 11 am for the grand unveiling of the 6.5ft bronze sculpture outside Rhondda Heritage Park Museum. Let Elizabeth’s legacy inspire the next generation of trailblazers. 💪
