A proposed sustainable transport corridor between Cardiff and Newport is causing a stir, with some fearing it might worsen traffic woes in Cardiff city centre. The plan aims to promote sustainable travel, including improved bus infrastructure and new cycleways, but could lead to traffic pinch points where lanes are reduced.
Cllr John Lancaster has voiced worries over potential congestion, quoting a council report that acknowledges risks during and after construction. There are hopes, though, that traffic modelling and design tweaks will smooth things out.
Cardiff Council assures us they’re on it, with changes like extra pedestrian crossings and traffic light sequencing in the works. One officer mentioned the “pain” of construction might be worth it for better traffic management in the long run.
