We’re devastated to share the news of the passing of James Michael Ridley, a beloved member of the Monmouth community. Jim, a proud father and grandfather, left us suddenly just days after visiting his GP with symptoms suggesting heart trouble. An inquest has opened to explore the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.

Jim was more than just a dedicated family man. He was an icon in the local sports scene, loved and respected by everyone at Monmouth RFC, where he was the first player to represent every age group all the way to the First XV. His contributions extended to clubs like Pontypool and Cross Keys and included thrilling stints with Monmouthshire County RFC, Gwent Police, and British Police teams.

Our community remembers him not just for his sporting prowess but for his infectious spirit and camaraderie. Monmouth RFC’s Chairman, Byron Hapgood, described Jim as “an absolute legend” and “a genuine ‘one-off’.”
Beyond rugby, Jim was a vibrant presence in golf circles, embodying true sportsmanship and forging friendships at golf clubs in and around Monmouth. His absence leaves a profound void in these cherished communities.
Our thoughts are with Jim’s family, including his wife Di and sons Jacob and Christian, during this heartbreaking time. Your legacy lives on, Jim, in the stories and memories of the countless lives you touched. Thank you for the laughs, the games, and the friendship. We’ll miss you terribly. RIP, dear friend.
