Great news for Chepstow! π The iconic Old Wye Bridge is reopening to pedestrians next week after being closed for months due to safety risks. ππ

Engineers have given the green light for limited access starting Saturday, 20th June. So, lace up those walking shoes! πΆββοΈπΆββοΈ

In March, several new cracks were found in the bridge’s cast iron structure, leading to concerns over public safety. But thanks to ongoing assessments and monitoring, it’s been deemed safe for pedestrians once more. π

From June 16th, work will begin to set up a safe route, with pedestrians allowed to use the pavement and a metre of the carriageway. The bridge will remain closed to vehicles, but this is a big win for those on foot. π§π·ββοΈ
Cllr Catrin Maby expressed the councilβs delight in restoring this valuable local link, emphasising the importance of safety through continuous monitoring. π οΈπ
But remember, further checks are ongoing, and the bridge might close again if there’s any sign of deterioration. During extreme temperatures, avoid using the bridge when it gets too hot or cold, as it’s sensitive to temperature changes.
For the moment, enjoy the scenic stroll and reconnect with the community! π³π Remember to stay vigilant and follow any safety guidelines as this historic bridge continues to undergo improvements.
