A 60-year-old teacher from Deri has been exposed as a paedophile after vile interactions with what he believed were 12-year-old girls. The shocking incident unfolded when David Skillern was nabbed by undercover police officers posing as young girls on the Kik messaging app.

David made contact with decoys named “Poppy” and “Hattie”, both of whom he thought were 12. His messages were deeply inappropriate—asking for personal photos, instructing on sexual acts, and even proposing to be an “older lover”.

The police swooped in on December 5, leading to his arrest. Skillern confessed, “I will lose my job, I will lose everything.” His phone revealed indecent images, and he admitted to attempting to incite young girls into sexual acts. It was also uncovered that he was part of illicit Kik group chats.

Despite his previous clean record, the gruesome nature of these revelations has left Skillern’s profession—and personal life—in tatters. He faced Cardiff Crown Court, where Recorder Barry Clarke remarked, “Life as you know it has been ruined.”
