A retired vicar from Talybont-on-Usk, Brecon, has been jailed after police found prohibited images of children on his laptop during an unannounced visit. Andrew Robinson, 77, already on the sex offender’s register for similar crimes, was caught with animated graphic images of children. When questioned, Robinson claimed ignorance of their illegal nature and shockingly added, “I have nothing else to do.”

Back in April 2025, Robinson was sentenced with a suspended prison term, added to the sex offender’s register, and given a sexual harm prevention order. Under close watch by Dyfed-Powys Police’s offender management unit, his home was subjected to random checks.

On June 9, detectives found his laptop openly displaying the illegal content. Appearing before Merthyr Magistrates’ Court, Robinson pleaded guilty to both the possession of prohibited images and breaching his prevention order. His previous suspended sentence was activated, resulting in a prison term of over a year. He was also fined £187.
Detective Sergeant Paula Rutherford stated Robinson’s actions, though involving animated images, are seriously damaging: “People may think there are no ‘real’ victims here, but viewing such images fuels demand for harmful material.” She added that this behavior can be a stepping stone to worse offenses, highlighting the duty to protect vulnerable children. Rutherford commended the dedicated team working to monitor sex offenders and ensure public safety both online and in the community. Robinson’s sentence underscores the commitment to safeguarding the public by holding offenders accountable.
