🎾 Shock at Wimbledon! 🎾

Our beloved British tennis star, Dan Evans, faces a major setback as his hopes for one last hurrah at Wimbledon took a hit. Despite being a former British No.1 and announcing his retirement after this year’s Championships, Evans was denied a singles wildcard by Wimbledon.

Hoping for a farewell on the grandest grass courts, Evans hoped his career serving British tennis would earn him a place without going through the intense qualifying rounds. However, the All England Club had other plans, granting the final wildcards to fellow Brits Harry Wendelken and Felix Gill, among others. This leaves Evans needing to battle through three gruelling qualifying matches at Roehampton if he wants a chance to shine one last time in the main draw.
Earlier, Evans expressed his disappointment after being overlooked for a Queen’s Club wildcard, feeling it would have been a “classy gesture” to honour his service to British tennis. Now, he finds himself in a similar situation heading into Wimbledon. However, Evans isn’t backing down. He’s ready to prove he can earn his spot the hard way. “I’m well capable. I’m in off my own ranking into qualifying and I’m capable of qualifying,” he insists.
While he may have missed out on a singles wildcard, Evans will still grace the courts at SW19 in the men’s doubles with partner Henry Searle. Let’s rally behind him and cheer our tennis hero on for one last spectacular run! 🇬🇧🌱🎾
