Ever wondered what job a royal might have dreamt of doing? Well, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, once admitted he’d rather have been a plumber! 🎩🔧

Catherine Mayer, in her latest book “Divide and Rule,” shares tales from her time accompanying Andrew on a trade mission to China. As the first journalist allowed on one of his official trips, she witnessed firsthand the disconnect between royal life and the everyday world.

During their discussions, Andrew opened up about his trade mission duties, hinting that he often felt out of place. It turns out that beneath the royal title, he longed for the simpler life of a tradesman.

Recent changes in Andrew’s life have been dramatic. In 2025, he relinquished his royal titles and moved from public duties to a quieter life. Now at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate, Andrew seems to be finding new interests, reportedly getting quite absorbed in technology and flight simulators. ✈️
Royal biographer Andrew Lownie suggests that adjusting to life without the structure of royal and military responsibilities has been challenging for Andrew. The former prince is searching for direction and focus in his post-royal life.
It’s fascinating to think about the paths our lives might take if we’d chosen differently. For Andrew, it seems the allure of plumbing still holds a special place in his heart. 💭
What do you think? Could you see Andrew as a plumber? Would love to hear your thoughts!
