Bridgend’s football pitch is finally clear as Travellers who set up camp have now moved on. Earlier this week, about 13 caravans and 20 cars appeared on Litchard playing fields, leaving the local community rattled. Locals reported experiencing abuse and the football club was left unable to use its usual grounds, disappointing many young athletes.

After a legal direction was served by Bridgend Council – similar to an eviction notice – all vehicles were swiftly removed. The council maintained a proactive stance, ensuring clean-up efforts began immediately once the last caravan left, turning what seemed like a never-ending saga into a cleaner, safer space.

Litchard FC, based on the playing fields, voiced the frustration felt by many, with their grounds overtaken. Club members and locals alike are relieved to reclaim their beloved pitch.
Earlier in the situation, local councillor Martin Williams encountered firsthand the hostility, reporting threats when visiting the site. Despite the unsettling experience, the council worked tirelessly to resolve the issue promptly.
South Wales Police had been on alert, coordinating with the council to monitor the situation closely. An urgent court hearing is on track to ensure the land remains accessible and secure for future community use.
Today marks a new beginning for the Litchard playing fields and the wider Bridgend community, as they look forward to moving past these recent disruptions.
