⚽️ A Cardiff City supporter, Gareth Whitehouse, 41, has been hit with a three-year ban from football matches after getting involved in a bust-up with rival fans at a Reading game. This incident took place last April in Greyfriars Street, Reading, as tensions rose between Cardiff City and Reading FC fans. Whitehouse, from Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff, was arrested on the day and later charged with a public order offence.

Appearing at Slough Magistrates’ Court, Whitehouse admitted to using threatening language or behaviour that could lead to harassment, alarm, or distress. Apart from the ban, he was slapped with fines and costs totalling £253. 🚫 The Football Banning Order aims to keep games peaceful and prevent future disturbances by stopping offenders from attending matches. It can even require individuals to hand over their passports during major tournaments like the World Cup to prevent international troublemaking.
PC Steve Mountain, Reading FC’s dedicated football officer, has condemned the disorder, stating that it has no place in football or within communities. He emphasised that most fans go to matches to enjoy the game safely, and it’s just a small minority that risks ruining it for everyone else. The recent order is seen as a testament to the commitment of working with clubs to ensure fans exhibiting anti-social behaviour are held accountable. 🏟️
