A heartbreaking trial has gripped Teesside as a mother stands accused of the unthinkable—delaying a 999 call when her toddler, Isabelle, was critically ill. Little Isabelle, just two years old, tragically lost her life after reportedly suffering 21 broken bones in the weeks leading up to her death last September. The court heard shocking details of how Alexandra Walker, 25, and her boyfriend Harrison Simpson, 22, allegedly failed to act when it mattered most.

Prosecutors revealed disturbing internet searches made by Walker, including “Why would my toddler be bleeding?”, while her daughter lay gravely ill. Richard Wright KC, prosecuting, painted a chilling picture of neglect, recounting how Walker smoked a cigarette instead of immediately calling for help. It took Walker’s stepfather arriving and urging her to call 999 for any action to be taken.

Even more harrowing, the court was told, was how Isabelle had previously been hospitalised with a broken leg, an injury Walker allegedly downplayed. The prosecution argues both Walker and Simpson were aware of the ongoing abuse yet chose to keep it hidden, leading to a tragic and avoidable death.
Both deny charges of murder, sexual assault, child cruelty, and allowing the death of a child. Throughout the investigation, Walker claimed she suspected Simpson of abuse, although she hadn’t stopped it. Meanwhile, Simpson remains silent, with prosecutors suggesting he has no answers to offer.
As the trial continues, the community is left reeling from the details of the alleged abuse, hoping for justice for Isabelle and a reminder of the importance of protecting our most vulnerable. Stay tuned for more updates as the courtroom drama unfolds.
