If you haven’t been to Mumbles skatepark lately, you’re in for a treat! This beloved skate-spot now boasts vibrant murals, thanks to a community art project that brought together local skaters, families, and even the local bobbies. 🚓

As part of the “Flip the Streets” initiative, locals rolled up their sleeves to transform the skatepark with positive words and sea-themed murals. From submarines to skateboards, the park is now a canvas reflecting the creativity and pride of Mumbles’ skate community.

Led by Swansea University’s Professor Lella Nouri, “Flip the Streets” aims to rejuvenate public spaces with art, replacing graffiti and giving young people and communities a say in their surroundings. 👏

The latest project saw around 40 people come together to paint and create, adding a splash of colour and unity. Professor Nouri describes it as a fantastic example of community spirit, showing how art can bring people together to give a voice to local spaces.

These eye-catching murals are not just about making a space look pretty; they carry the vibrancy and warmth of the skatepark community, making it an even more welcoming spot for everyone. 🛹✨

This initiative kicked off in 2023 and has energised spaces across Swansea, including Clase and Gorseinon. Keen to see more of this brilliant art? Keep an eye out for the exhibition at Volcano Theatre in July.

Now’s the perfect time to soak in the creativity and skate the rainbow at Mumbles! 🌈🥳
