St George’s Plaice in the picturesque town of Llandudno has gained a less-than-glamorous reputation online with brutal reviews. With quips about soggy batter and steep prices, it’s been a hot topic for all the wrong reasons! Determined to see if the critics were overly harsh, I embarked on a curious culinary journey to see if the chippy lived up to—or miserably down to—its infamy.

My expectations were tentatively hopeful with the stunning location and seagulls giving a coastal charm. But things took a nosedive once inside. The chippy had run out of many traditional staples, which sent me opting for a pollock and chips, mushy peas, a sausage, and curry sauce—all for a not-so-bargain price.

The first few bites of the chips signalled some hope, but the pollock was a letdown, more batter than fish, and what little fish was there was just mush. It was a struggle! The mushy peas were underwhelming and bitingly sour, while the curry sauce lacked any real flavour. As for the £4.50 sausage, industrial at best and not worth the spend. Even the cheeky seagull that swooped down for a taste seemed hesitant!

Not liking to leave things unresolved, I decided to give the meal back for a refund. Surprisingly, the staff were understanding— a sure sign this wasn’t the first complaint they’d received.

It’s a shame; with such a beautiful setting, there’s real potential for St George’s Plaice to offer an ace fish and chip experience. Let’s hope they can turn it around and deliver something a bit tastier next time! šŸ½ļøāœØ
