In a shocking tale of neglect, 77 dogs were discovered in appalling conditions at the home of a former Crufts winner. Lynda Cooper from Pontypool has admitted to 11 welfare offences after puppies were found malnourished and adult dogs suffered from severe health issues like dental disease and ear infections. Six senior dogs, unfortunately, had to be put to sleep due to their poor condition.

The discovery was made after the council received a tip-off about illegal breeding and immediately teamed up with the RSPCA to rescue the dogs. When officials arrived, they were met with distressing scenes—dogs severely underweight and in dire need of medical care. Hope Rescue took charge of rehoming the fortunate survivors.

Sara Rosser from Hope Rescue described the case as both “challenging” and “distressing.” She highlighted how many dogs were not only physically depleted but also nervous due to lack of life experience.

On June 19, Cooper was sentenced to pay £10,000 in council costs and received a £187 victim surcharge. She’s also been banned from keeping dogs for a decade. This incident serves as a crucial reminder about responsible pet ownership and the importance of reporting animal cruelty.
