Gary Lineker is not holding back on his criticism of FIFA’s ‘absurd’ decision during the World Cup. France wanted to honour their manager Didier Deschamps’ mum, who recently passed away, by wearing black armbands. But FIFA said no! Deschamps missed France’s 4-1 victory over Norway to attend his mother’s funeral, leaving Guy Stephan in charge. Although Norway showed kindness by gifting Stephan a bouquet, FIFA didn’t budge on the armband tribute, a ruling that didn’t sit well with Lineker.

He expressed his disbelief, saying, “The loss of his mother is a tragedy. It’s truly sad, and I still can’t believe FIFA didn’t allow it.”

Despite this, France marched on triumphantly, topping their group and moving into the knockout stages with ease. But it seems FIFA’s decisions are under the spotlight more than ever this World Cup. Lineker also slammed their hefty five-match ban on Qatar’s Assim Madibo, who was penalised for a tackle leading to a serious injury for Canada’s Ismael Kone. Lineker took to social media, calling it “a complete nonsense,” arguing the challenge wasn’t even worthy of a red card.
