🏆 Making Waves in Sailing! 🚤

Hannah Mills, the powerhouse sailor from Cardiff, is championing gender equity through SailGP. As a key figure in the Emirates Great Britain Sailing Team, Hannah played a pivotal role in their historic SailGP victory. But she’s not just making waves on the water; she’s breaking barriers too! 💪

In a sport that’s traditionally seen men at the helm, Hannah is setting a new standard. SailGP’s Women’s Pathway programme, launched in 2021, is a game-changer, offering crucial opportunities for women to excel in elite foiling—a thrilling, fast-paced form of sailing that’s reshaping the sport. 🌊

“There aren’t many sports like sailing where men and women can compete on equal footing,” says Hannah. “But the experience gap has been a challenge. It used to be all men in the early days of foil sailing, giving them a huge head start.”
SailGP is tackling this gap head-on, ensuring each team includes female athletes, providing them with the experience needed to succeed. Hannah believes this visibility is vital, inspiring young girls to see women command various roles on the boat. It’s not just about equity—it’s about engaging half the fanbase and unlocking enormous potential for the sport! 🚀
As SailGP gets ready to kick off the European leg in Portsmouth next month, Hannah is eager to turn her team’s recent challenges into a thrilling comeback. “Portsmouth marked the start of our comeback last year. It’s a home event, and we thrive under pressure. We know we can deliver when it counts,” she says.
