The Government is rolling out fresh legislation allowing digital IDs to be used for age verification when purchasing alcohol. Supermarkets and pubs like Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, and Waitrose, as well as convenience stores and nightclubs, will now accept certified digital IDs.

Sarah Jones, Minister of State for Policing and Crime, announced that this update means anyone who looks younger than their age but hates carrying physical documents will soon be able to use a digital ID instead. No more stressing about leaving your passport at home! 📱

So, what’s the deal? If everything goes as planned, by autumn 2026, you can verify your age using approved apps like Yoti and Post Office EasyID. Just show your digital ID, and you’re good to go! 🆔

Not a fan of digital IDs? Don’t worry, traditional documents will still be accepted. The Government is making sure that checks remain robust, whether digital or physical, to keep everything safe and sound. 🔒

Robin Tombs from Yoti calls this a “major milestone for the UK”. It’s a leap towards a modern, hassle-free shopping experience while keeping in line with security standards.
