Summer’s here, and we all love a good beach BBQ. But some recent antics have led to calls for tighter rules on bonfires and barbies at Swansea beach. Councillor Rob Stewart hinted that restrictions could come if things get out of hand.

After a meeting at the council, there was chatter about how leftover BBQs and antisocial antics—especially around the marina’s dunes—are messing things up. Councillor Sam Bennett thanked the team for their hard work cleaning up but wondered if it’s time for a BBQ rethink, similar to dog restrictions already in place.

Councillor Angela O’Connor highlighted that other councils have banned disposable BBQs, using electric grills instead. She shared local concerns about broken glass and antisocial behaviour at some beaches.

It’s not all bad news—red bins for BBQ waste have been provided, and there’s a push for community beach clean-ups. Plus, South Wales Police have upped their game with dispersal orders cracking down on troublemakers.
