While new episodes aren’t in the pipeline, fans can rejoice in the return of “The Best of Weatherman Walking.” This spin-off features a collection of Derek’s favourite walks, from Welsh Islands to Coastal Delights, and more. The series, which started in 2025, will be back for another run in 2026/27, so keep your eyes peeled for those re-runs!

The BBC’s decision comes amidst significant budget cuts, part of a wider savings plan aimed at reducing costs by £500 million over the next three years. This has led to tough choices, including reducing 100-150 hours of original programming and sadly, the closure of 550 roles across various divisions by 2027/28, hitting BBC Wales particularly hard.

Despite the cuts, the BBC has emphasised that future decisions on programmes and staffing will focus on content with the greatest audience impact, investing where content consumption is growing, and simplifying operations.

Missing Derek’s scenic adventures? You can still catch The Best of Weatherman Walking on BBC iPlayer or BBC Two Wales every Tuesday at 1.30pm. Until then, let’s raise a toast to Derek Brockway and his fantastic journey exploring Wales’ breathtaking landscapes. 📺🌦🌿
