This picturesque spot, just a sandy walk from Whitmore Bay, experienced a large chunk of rock coming loose from the cliffs. With temperatures soaring to 30°C, there’s a good chance many will flock to the coast this week – but please be cautious!
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has surveyed the site to ensure public safety. They remind us that such rockfalls aren’t unusual during heatwaves, when expanding and contracting rocks are more likely to shift. Remember, it’s crucial to mind the warning signs and steer clear of the cliff edges.
Catherine Pennington, a landslide expert, notes how fluctuating temperatures can widen cracks in rocks, increasing the risk of these dramatic events. Thankfully, no injuries were reported this time.
