Welsh boxing star Joe Cordina has found himself in a bit of a legal pickle! The 34-year-old has been charged in connection with an alleged assault outside a Cardiff petrol station back in February. Court details revealed that Cordina is accused of assault and supposedly threatening someone with an offensive weapon.
The incident allegedly took place outside the Pentwyn service station, and Cordina wasn’t alone—another person, Jamie O’Brien, 32, from Pentwyn, has also been charged. The duo’s legal tussle will continue at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court at the end of the month.
Adding to his woes, Cordina has also been forced to pull out of a highly anticipated WBO lightweight title fight against Abdullah Mason, which was set to take place across the pond in Cleveland. It’s not injuries keeping him from the ring this time; instead, he was denied a US visa despite coming prepared to the embassy with all his paperwork.
The boxer took to Instagram to express his disappointment, explaining that the decision to deny the visa was out of his hands. Despite a successful training camp and hopes of claiming another world title, Cordina is unable to make it to the fight. He expressed his frustration and disappointment for both himself and his would-be opponent.
