🌍 Shocking Figures: Over 800 Racism Incidents in Cardiff Schools! 📚
In a startling revelation, more than 800 cases of racism have been reported in Cardiff schools over the past year, highlighting a persistent and deeply rooted issue that can’t be ignored. Although there’s been a slight drop from the previous year, the figures remain alarmingly high.
Community leaders are calling for urgent action, stressing that these numbers are more than just statistics—they reflect painful experiences of exclusion and discrimination faced by students every day.
Aliya Mohammed from Race Equality First describes these figures as a “wake-up call” for all. She emphasises that while there’s been minor improvement, having over 800 incidents of racism remains unacceptable, proving that racism continues to be a burning issue in our educational system.
Professor Uzo Iwobi CBE of Race Council Cymru finds these revelations both “shocking and heartbreaking,” insisting that every single incident points to a systemic failure to provide students with a safe, respectful learning environment.
Despite the distressing figures, efforts are underway to tackle this serious issue. Cardiff Council asserts its commitment to eradicating this behaviour by working closely with schools through initiatives that promote inclusive practices. The council’s Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) is at the forefront of this, aiding schools to foster safe and inclusive settings.
