🔍 Big Swell in Complaints Against Councillors in Neath Port Talbot! 🔍
Have you heard about the recent spike in complaints against councillors in Neath Port Talbot? According to their annual report, 2025-26 was a year of increased grumbling!
The council received 11 complaints against its members, accusing them of breaching the code of conduct. That’s a steep climb from just one complaint in the previous year! Over in town and community councils, 15 complaints were filed, compared to only two the year before.
However, almost all complaints were dismissed by the Public Service Ombudsman for Wales, with just one being investigated further. Louise Fleet, the chair of the standards committee, stressed that leadership and engagement have been key themes this year.
Regular meetings with elected officials and political leaders aimed to reinforce the importance of respectful conduct and behaviour. They want to ensure poor conduct doesn’t damage public confidence.
Although most complaints didn’t lead to investigations, it’s a strong reminder of the spotlight on public life. With standards under scrutiny, there’s a push for greater leadership in setting positive examples. 💪
