A dramatic night at the Baruc Arms in Barry saw 23-year-old Jordan Gregory attack a man with a beer bottle outside the pub after an argument escalated. The victim, Owen Harvey, had allegedly threatened Gregory’s daughter, leading to the violent confrontation. Thankfully, the bottle didn’t smash, and Harvey only suffered minor injuries as someone stepped in to break up the fight.
But the night’s events didn’t end there. Later, Gregory was involved in a wild police chase while under the influence, all over Barry’s streets. Driving without insurance, he hit crazy speeds, even mounting the kerb and narrowly avoiding losing control. It didn’t take long before the cops caught up to him in a dead-end road. Upon arrest, he was found with cocaine, cannabis, and a knuckleduster. Gregory admitted to officers he was an “alcoholic” and, after testing, blew nearly four times the legal alcohol limit.
Facing the music at Cardiff Crown Court, Gregory pleaded guilty to several charges, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and possession of drugs. The judge handed down a 34-month prison sentence, suspended for 36 months, coupled with rehab requirements, an alcohol monitoring programme, and a 24-month driving ban.
It’s a stark reminder of how quickly things can spiral out of control. Let’s hope Gregory takes this chance to turn things around.
