Strictly Come Dancing’s beloved star Amy Dowden has returned to her roots in Caerphilly, and she’s celebrated in style! Amy unveiled a mini statue of herself in Dafydd Williams Park as part of an exciting project to rejuvenate the area. The park, which holds cherished memories of Amy’s youth, has been transformed with new amenities and stunning art installations. Among these is the extraordinary Town Relief Map, featuring figures that capture Caerphilly’s rich history and culture, including a tangoing Amy!
Reflecting her journey, Amy shared her joy: “I literally started dancing around here, so it’s surreal to see a mini me as part of this!” The community spirit was alive and kicking with live performances from Shappelle’s Dance School—where Amy’s dance passion ignited—and support from local businesses.
The celebration also marked the launch of Caerfilli’s Trail of Tales, a virtual tour that highlights Caerphilly’s past and present icons. Shop fronts are getting a fabulous facelift, including a floral tribute to Amy at a local florist.
Amy radiated pride, saying: “The park’s transformation is fantastic, and I’m honoured to be part of a project that highlights our wonderful community. Caerphilly’s spirit is unbeatable, and I hope it inspires the next generation to dream big.”
