Tough day at the office for Cardiff City as their pre-season got off to a rocky start. The Bluebirds faced a harsh reality check with a 6-0 defeat to FC Midtjylland at Cardiff City Stadium. The Danish side, clearly in top gear with a Europa League qualifier on the horizon, netted three goals in each half.
Valdemar Byskov kicked things off, capitalising on a mistake by goalkeeper Harry Tyrer. Franculino and Vitor Bak added to Cardiff’s woes before half-time. Despite notable chances from Yousef Salech, Ollie Tanner, and Alex Robertson, the Bluebirds found themselves trailing 3-0 at the break.
The second half saw a completely new team for Cardiff, but the pattern continued. Friday Etim’s double and a goal from Junior Brumado sealed a dominant display by the visitors, leaving Cardiff’s defence in shambles.
Manager Brian Barry-Murphy, not looking too pleased from the sidelines, knows there’s some serious work to be done before the Championship kicks off next month. Fans are hoping for fresh talents to join and uplift the squad soon.
The team now heads to Cork for more pre-season prep, with matches against Cork City, Forest Green Rovers, and Roma coming up before the real action starts against Wrexham on August 17th.
