Dewi Lake Leads by Example in Heartfelt Gesture ❤️
It was a tough day for Wales on the rugby field as they faced a 35-21 defeat to Argentina. But amidst the challenges, captain Dewi Lake stole the show with his true leadership spirit. After opening the scoring with a powerful try, Lake’s night was abruptly cut short due to a leg injury. Limping off the pitch in pain, he demonstrated why he’s every bit the captain Wales needs.
Just as physios helped him up, Lake prioritised gratitude over pain. In a moment captured by the TV mics, he reached out to referee Paul Williams with a heartfelt, “I’ll go off to the side. Sir, thank you.” He even ensured a smooth transition, informing Williams, “Number seven will be skipper, just to let you know, alright? Thank you.”
Lake didn’t stop there. As he left the field, he rallied his teammates, urging them to dig deep in the final 20 minutes. The crowd, recognising his dedication, showered him with appreciation.
Coach Steve Tandy previously highlighted Lake’s excellent rapport with referees as a key reason for his captaincy— and this moment surely epitomises why.
