A small Welsh community has pulled off something magical by raising thousands of pounds to secure a slice of literary legend! The residents of Crickhowell have banded together to purchase an original letter from J.R.R. Tolkien himself. This gem dates back to February 1966 and unveils how Crickhowell inspired the fictional Crickhollow from the iconic “Lord of the Rings” series. 📜✨

The letter, which was sent to a Jenny Hall sixty years ago, was up for auction at Christie’s, with initial eyes on a £5,000 to £7,000 estimate. But here’s where the plot thickens—bidding kicked off on July 8, shooting up past £12,000! Local champion Frank Ady led the charge to reclaim the artefact for the town with an initial goal of £2,200. However, spirited support saw a whopping £9,000 raised, and the successful bid totalled £15,000. Including auction fees, the total comes to £19,800… but fear not, the community’s rally saved the day, securing £16,255 in total so far! 🎉👏

Frank Ady exulted, “We’ve brought home Tolkien’s letter, accentuating how Crickhowell inspired his literary universe! This precious piece will now live where it truly belongs, for both visitors and locals to cherish.” 🏡💌
There’s a bit of fundraising magic still required to cover the last £3,500. If anyone wants to be part of this legendary effort, now’s the time to chip in and help history shine! Here’s to team spirit and literary heritage! 💪📚
