In a thrilling overnight operation dubbed “Operation Alpha,” Gwent Police orchestrated a series of meticulous raids that resulted in dismantling a notorious drugs gang in south Wales. The early-hours swoop saw homes in Newport and Cwmbran targeted, leading to the arrest and conviction of four gang members, all of whom were heavily involved in trafficking cocaine and crack cocaine.

Jerome Winter, Sharif Rahman, Armani Brown, and Saif Ali are now behind bars with a collective sentence of 28-and-a-half years! This crack team seized illegal drugs with a street value of £17,460, nearly £9,000 in cash, mobile phones, electronics, and even some flashy designer clothes.

The operation was a testament to the dedicated efforts and collaboration of police teams, including officers with police dogs, drone operators, and the specialist crime unit. Rahman and Brown, prominent figures in the criminal enterprise, played key roles in distributing drugs across the region over the past year.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Edwards expressed gratitude to everyone who aided in this major bust, emphasising the importance of protecting communities from organised crime. He reassured locals of the police’s unwavering commitment to tackling the illegal drug trade that devastates families and creates widespread suffering.
