Neville Braithwaite, 48, from Merthyr Tydfil, found himself in a world of trouble after telling a decoy he believed to be a 14-year-old girl that she looked “sexy” in her school uniform. His shocking misconduct involved sending inappropriate messages and images via Facebook and Snapchat. Braithwaite knowingly risked trouble by continuing the conversation, admitting he could “get into trouble” for grooming.

This disturbing exchange escalated after Braithwaite sent overtly sexual content, urging the decoy to “play” while watching explicit videos. His actions didn’t go unnoticed, as Dank Dragon, a paedophile hunter group, intervened on May 14, leading to his inevitable arrest by the police.

Upon searching his home, authorities discovered small quantities of cannabis and amphetamine. Braithwaite, in his police interview, expressed disgust with himself, claiming a bizarre fascination with getting caught by the paedophile hunter group as he wanted help for his tendencies. However, his confessions contradicted claims he made to probation about his attractions.

Additionally, Braithwaite was involved in a December incident where he was found in a building with burglary tools, claiming innocent exploration.
Facing a slew of charges, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, burglary, and drug possession, his past legal woes certainly didn’t help. With 21 previous convictions, mainly for theft, Neville Braithwaite was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He’s also under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must meet sex offender notification requirements for the next decade.
A grim reminder to stay aware and vigilant, this case underscores the invaluable role of vigilant groups and the justice system in protecting our communities.
